Richard Bodgers: Music Composer


Richard Bodgers is a TV commercial, film and theatre composer. His feature credits include the award-winning Being Sold and The Butterfly Tattoo for director Phil Hawkins; and Splintered for writer/director Simeon Halligan. He has also scored a number of award winning shorts including Out Of The Woods for director Bledar Bujupi; Snaps for director Simon Lewis; The Painter and Bully Boys, both for writer/director Steen Agro. He is currently working with writer/director Phil Hawkins of Philm on several new feature projects.

During his time as associate music director at the Manchester Library theatre he composed the original scores for the award winning Angels In America and also The Glass Menagerie. He later took on the role of Director of Music at Alton Towers, producing original scores for their many live events and shows. With the band 808 State he co-wrote and produced a track for a Charity Foundations album alongside The Prodigy, Radiohead and Massive Attack.

In a second career strand Richard set up Theme Music in 1996 and it is now established as one of the leading producers of scores for film and tv commercials. He and his team have composed and produced more than 1300 cinema and tv commission including several award winning global campaigns for Bentley Motors, Jaguar, Sony, Lemsip, Hoover and Tomb Raider; and UK campaigns for among others Johnnie Walker, DFS, Magnet Kitchens, Centre Parcs, First Choice Holidays, Yorkshire Tourist Board and The Co-op.

He also has a thriving music library business, The Music Jar, which offers an ever increasing selection of cleared tracks for films and tv use across the board, written and produced by an expanding team of composers.

Always music obsessed, at 17 his first professional band was The Craft in which he played keyboards, was the lead singer and main writer. They toured the UK and Europe as support for Guns n’ Roses and Soundgarden and released several records. In the 90’s he was a member of Atlas alongside Andy Barker of 808 State.

At a certain point Richard decided he wanted a serious career in music and won a place at Huddersfield University with the intention of becoming a concert pianist. He later switched to the composing course having decided that was his real ambition and is now well established in three very different music sectors of his own creation.

Richard set up THEME MUSIC in 1996 and it is now established as one of the leading producers of scores for film and television commercials. Since then they have composed and produced more than 1300 cinema and television commercials, including several Award winning Campaigns for Bentley Motors, Jaguar, Sony, Lemsip, Scholl, Hoover and Tomb Raider.

UK based campaigns include Johnnie Walker, Harveys Furniture (Sponsirship for Coronation Street) CSL and DFS Sofas, Chicken Tonight, Moben Kitchens, Dolphin Bathrooms, Sharps Bedrooms, Jet 2, Matalan, Alton Towers, Centre Parcs, Teleflorist, Injury Lawyers 4 U, Co-Op, Bavaria Lager, Bonjela, Time Computers, Breville, Graham & Brown, Magnet Kitchens, Stennaline, Hilary’s Blinds, United Utilities, Silent Night, Hoseasons, First Choice Holidays, Yorkshire Tourist Board and Fishermans Friend.

Richard has also scored several Games and Apps: Stalker, Worms, Moto GP, Arrachnadoodle and Zodiac Quest. he also has a thriving music library business, THE MUSIC JAR, which offers thousands of cleared for broadcast tracks written by an expanding team of composers, their music has been used for television commercials, films, Tv programmes and documentaries including: Coronation Street, Escape to the Country, Meanstreets, Extreme Dreams, Ultimate Factories, Britons Worst Pet, Murder (reality show in the U.S), Fashion File, Fetch! with Ruff Ruffman (U.S kids reality gameshow), Epicerie (Canadian food show) and Doen Met’N Miljoen (South Africa’s Deal or No Deal).
